Historically based in the residential multi-family sector, Granite has moved into other real estate opportunities according to the progress of the national economic cycle and the risk reward profile of each opportunity. During the early to mid-2000’s Granite reduced the number of multi-family projects in favor of commencing asset acquisition and operations in the senior housing healthcare sector; a shift in focus that provided a firm foundation for the company during the global financial crisis and the resulting recession across the United States. Additionally, Granite has sponsored real estate investments into other real estate asset classes, including self storage, commercial and industrial properties, when the opportunities provided an appropriate risk reward balanced investment.
Following two years of research into the distressed mortgage industry, Granite formed Granite Loan Solutions in 2012 to commence operations in the distressed mortgage industry. GLS manages opportunities primarily in the nationwide distressed residential real estate mortgage sector.
For more than 200 years, Cigna and its predecessor companies have been in the insurance field. In 1792, a group of Philadelphia citizens formed the Insurance Company of North America (INA), the first marine insurance company in the United States. In 1865, the Governor of Connecticut signed a special law creating Connecticut General Life Insurance Company (CG). In 1982, Cigna was formed through the combination of INA Corporation and Connecticut General Corporation.
